Festivities begin 10 a.m.
Each year thousands of people attend the Memorial Day service at Loma Vista Memorial Park. Set up takes a full week, with nearly 500 volunteers ironing and putting up 3800 flags, and crosses. In addition, grave markers are swept, and crosses painted and repaired. The event started in 1939, when Fullerton’s Chapman family placed 50 flags and crosses on veterans’ graves. Now the number of deceased vets grows by hundreds each year.
